Carrot greens
Carrot tops are very popular because of their delicious taste!
Carrot greens may have an effect on:
- Digestion: contain fibres that support a healthy intestinal function.
- Urinary system: mildly diuretic, helping to cleanse the kidneys and bladder.
- Immune system: may strengthen the immune system and support healthy skin and coat.
Note: Carrot tops contain a higher calcium level. Rabbits without kidney or bladder problems, and with sufficient exercise, can safely eat carrot tops. In the right amounts, they can have a positive effect on the kidneys and bladder.
Can be eaten by rabbits, guinea pigs, chinchillas, other small rodents, and horses.
Mainly: carrot greens. Occasionally, a blade of grass may be present.
Rich in fibre, contains a higher calcium content.
Did you know that rabbits handle calcium differently?
Rabbits absorb almost all the calcium from their food. The excess is excreted through the kidneys. When too much calcium accumulates in the body, it can lead to bladder sludge or even bladder stones.
However, rabbits do need calcium it’s always a balancing act between not too much and not too little.
Exercise also plays an important role.
Many rabbits with bladder problems develop them not only because of a high calcium intake, but also due to a lack of movement.
So challenge your rabbit regularly:
Hide some treats, scatter their food, let them search, jump, and dig.
That way they stay active and healthy inside and out!
